Dad

As some of you may be aware, Dad was diagnosed on April 23rd with pancreatic cancer.  The CT scan on the subsequent Wednesday showed clear lungs, a tumor adjacent the portal vein in the pancreas, and multiple tiny lesions on the liver (that the radiologist believed to be benign).

Dad will undergo a ‘whipple’ procedure on Wednesday, May 12th at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City in an effort to remove the tumor.  We’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have surgery and to fight the cancer.

The procedure is invasive enough that he’ll be in the hospital for roughly a week, and will remain in NY for the subsequent week.  We’re told that he’ll be able to talk on the phone and respond to emails approximately 4 weeks post surgery.

In spite of the circumstances, Johnny hasn’t stopped being Johnny.  During the endoscopic ultrasound on the 23rd Dad asked the MD if he’d had a good night’s rest… to which the MD replied that he had.  Then Dad asked “Do you do a lot of these, or did you stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night?”  He can’t help himself!

For as long as I can remember, people have asked me whether or not Dad is as kind and positive in private as he is in public.  And the answer is yes.  Dad is the genuine article.  Recent days have been no different.  But it’s important to realize where his remarkable hope and strength comes from – his faith.

We’ve learned that when you have those moments where you feel as though your legs have been taken out from under you, lift your gaze and you’ll find yourself at the foot of the cross.  At the end of the day, regardless of our feelings at a particular moment, we have a God that knows and loves Dad intimately.  At the cross we witness God’s compassion in its fullest.  He understands our pain and fear.  And Dad keeps reminding us that God is in control.

In an effort to keep everyone updated, a CarePages.com site has been set up for Dad.  If you are already a CarePages member, you will need to “sign in”.  If not, just click on “become a member” to create a login.  (Search Ussery or JohnnyUssery - no spaces)

From a business perspective Dad and I have been blessed with a great start to 2010.  We’re working very hard, and are thrilled to be the #1 Team on the Mainland in volume to date (13 transactions with over $9.4M in volume).

Once he’s back on his feet, Johnny is also looking forward to returning to training.  We’ve been thrilled to hear all of the recent positive stories and data from the development and brokerage clients with whom Dad has been consulting and training.  Dad loves teaching/coaching, and it’s all the more rewarding when your clients are seeing tangible results!

We sincerely appreciate your prayers and support.  God bless.
